MALCOLM TAKES PENN CAN MOD WIN, STRADA WHEELS TO CRSA VICTORY IN IMPRESSIVE FASHION ON ROB’S MARKET NIGHT

SUSQUEHANNA, PA…Brian Malcolm raced to his second Modified feature win on Friday night at Penn Can Speedway in the caution free feature on Rob’s Market Night. Eddie Strada III stormed to the CRSA Sprint Car win with Mike Decker, Shane Wolf, Jr., Bud Phillips, Jeremy Williams and Nick Kennedy also claiming victories.

Rookie standout Ryan Olsommer raced into the lead at the drop of the green but was quickly challenged by veteran Mike Colsten. Colsten put heavy pressure on Olsommer as he worked the bottom of the speedway and Olsommer wheeled around the top. While they were going at it for the lead it allowed Brian Malcolm to close in on them and make it a three car battle for the lead.

Malcolm was able to work past Colsten on lap ten and then set his sights on Olsommer. Malcolm hounded Olsommer until making his move for the lead at the halfway point. Once in front Malcolm had is HigFab Chassis hooked up and flying as he opened a comfortable lead. At that point all eyes were on Nick Rochinski who was working his way through traffic.

Rochinski moved past Olsommer for second with just six laps to go but with the race going caution free he was unable to mount a serious challenge for the lead. Malcolm would take the victory with Rochinski second ahead of Olsommer, Colsten and Mike Dougherty. Positions six through ten went to Frank Porreca, Joey Colsten, Brett Tonkin, Alan Rudalavage and Joey Grammes.

Eddie Strada III put on a clinic in the companion CRSA Sprint Car feature. Josh Pieniazek charged to the early lead with Josh Flint in tow. Strada was working his way forward by flying around the top of the speedway. He caught up to Billy Van Inwegen and Scott Goodrich to crack the top five and made a tremendous move to driver past both of them.

Once Strada got past those two drivers he made wasted no time charging to the front on the extreme outside of the speedway. He then made quick work of Pieniazek to race into the lead and go on to claim the victory. Pieniazek would settle for second ahead of Josh Flint, Van Inwegen and Goodrich. Sixth through tenth went to Thomas Radivoy, Brett Jaycox, Sydney Price, Dalton Herrick and Kyle Smith.

The Factory Stocks took to the track for their STAR Series event and it was Jeremy Williams representing his home turf to claim the victory in thrilling fashion. Buck Mills, Jr. led the way from the drop of the green but quickly had Josh Towner hot on his heels. Jason Rinker and Williams joined in on the fun as the race progressed.

Rinker’s strong run was halted when he lost the handle on his mount during a three car battle for the lead with Mills and Williams. Mills and Williams would race hard to the finish with Williams diving into three on the bottom and drifting up in front of Mills. Mills would then shoot back underneath him as they drag raced to the finish with Williams coming home first. Mills was second ahead of Jason Travis, Towner and Chris Groover.

Mike Decker raced to his first Crate Sportsman feature win of the season with authority. He was challenged briefly by Ryan Stone at the outset but held the lead. Dusty Barton moved into second and provided a brief challenge to Decker. Late in the race Mike Schane was able to get past Barton for second but had nothing for the high flying Decker.

Decker had his car dialed in and went the distance to claim the feature win. Point leader Schane was second ahead of Barton, Leo McGurrin and Stone.

Shane Wolf, Jr. made it look easy as he roared to another Street Stock feature win. He moved into the lead on lap three and never looked back. Ryan Codington was second ahead of Ricky Davis, Sr., Tom Groover and Doug Polhamus.

Bud Phillips hounded Jim O’Hara for the entire Crate Late Model race before making his move in turn one on the last lap to take the lead. Phillips scored his ninth win of the season followed by O’Hara, Ben Whitaker and Alan Chapman.

Nick Kennedy won the weekly battle of the Kennedy brothers in the Four Cylinder feature event. Rick Lunn had a strong run but it was Nick Kennedy taking the lead with brother Frank Kennedy following him to the checkers this week. Lunn was third ahead of Andy Brigham and Chris Taylor in the 18 car field.

Racing resumes on Friday, September second with the Seward Rice Memorial Spectacular and Season Championship night sponsored by Pine Line Auto Sales. The race will take on a new twist this year with Twin 20’s on the card for the Modifieds, Twin 15’s for the Crate Sportsman and Twin 12’s for the Crate Late Models along with the Street Stocks, Factory Stocks and Four Cylinders.
