MALCOLM WINS EMOTIONAL MODIFIED FEATURE AT PENN CAN...GENNERALLI, CARPENTER, KENNEDY, BEACH, AND MABY ALSO WIN

Susquehanna, PA…It was a very difficult week for modified driver Brain Malcolm with his car owner and friend Tom Coar being involved in a serious truck accident. Malcolm of Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania stayed focused during the thirty lap main event and brought his Waymart Building Center car home for the win for the first time this season at Penn Can on Pump-N-Pantry Stores Night. Young 602 sportsman rookie Alec Genneralli has been close all season and finally drove to Victory Lane. The five hundred dollar to win street stock feature was another close one with 2013 champion Jon Carpenter getting his first win at speedway this year. Eric Beach continued his hot streak winning the factory stock main with Frank Kennedy winning in the four cylinders. Local favorite Kamdin Maby was the Xcel 600 winning driver.

Kenny Titus used his outside front row starting position to jump out to the early lead in front of Mike Loney, Brian Malcolm, and Nick Rochinski. The first of only four cautions slowed the field on lap nine for a minor incident in turn two. When racing resumed Malcolm got by Titus to take the top spot. Caution two came with a slowed car in turn four grouping the field with Malcolm leading Titus, Adam Mac George, and Joey Grammes.

As laps clicked off Malcolm continue out front until the car of Kevin Hartnett’s spun coming to resting turn two bring the field back together. With Malcolm out front, Grammes moved into the second position. Lap after lap Grammes cut the gap. With two laps remaining the two cars were nose to tail. They raced that way for the final two circuits with Malcolm nipping Grammes at the line for the emotional win. Grammes, MacGeorge, Titus, and Billy Thornton rounded out the top five.

Rookie Alec Genneralli has been close to winning a 602 sportsman event all season. He had one taken from what looked like a sure win when he tangled with a lapped car earlier in the season. Friday Genneralli had his car hooked from the heat race to the feature. Starting fifth in the feature, Genneralli took command of the race on lap eight and never looked back. Two time feature winner Ryan Olsommer did all he could to chase down the top running car but came up short at the finish. Genneralli got his first ever win followed by Olsommer, Nick Mady, Randy Gates, and Paul Rooney.

The twenty five lap $500 to win street stock feature was another crowd pleaser. Racing for the top spot had the cars of Jon Carpenter, Shane Wolf, Steve Deinhardt, and Ryan Stone swapping positions lap after lap with Butch Green, Ray Linquist, and Eric Boynton just waiting for a mistake. Carpenter took command on lap ten with Stone and Deinhardt on his back bumper. A twelfth lap restart had the cars bunched back together. They raced clean until the caution flew with twenty four laps in the books setting up a one lap dash. Carpenter got the start he needed and held off Wolf for his first win of 2014 at Penn Can.

Eric Beach continued his hot streak in the factory stocks holding off Kris Shimer, Josh Wilbur, and Ted Mills Jr for another win. In the four cylinder division Frank Kennedy held off his two family members, Dylan Robinson and Nick Kennedy for the victory.

In the Xcel 600 modified division local favorite young Kamdin Maby has been close to winning his first Penn can feature. Last week the car broke while leading. This week after winning on Saturday night at Five Mile Point Speedway, Maby put it all together and won for the first time ever at his home town speedway. Will Eastman, Kailee Dimorier, Jamie Frantz, and Scott Adams rounded out the top five.

PENN NOTES: Another fine crowd witnessed another night of great action. Track conditions made for two and three wide action. The modified point battle tightened as a few of the top runner experienced problems bring more drivers into the mix. Next Friday is the annual July Fourth Fireworks Spectacular. The speedway will launch the largest aerial fireworks display in the area. It always attracts a large crowd for this fan favorite event sponsored by Warner’s Gas Service of Vestal, New York. Modified newcomers included Tom McGurren, Bob Trapper, Bobby Trapper, Jeff Crambo, and Junior Goodwin. Dan Pompey experienced motor problems forcing him to a back-up car. Malcolm reported that owner Tom Coar is home recovering after an early week truck accident.
