JOEY COLSTEN GOES WIRE TO WIRE FOR PENN CAN MODIFIED WIN; BUNKER, WOLF, O’HARA, WILLIAMS AND ROBINSON ALSO RACE TO CHECKERS

SUSQUEHANNA, PA…Joey Colsten went wire to wire to win a thrilling caution free Modified feature on Friday night at Penn Can Speedway. Marty Bunker, Shane Wolf, Jr., Jim O’Hara, Jeremy Williams and Mike Robinson also came home victorious in their feature events. Massive storms swept through the area on Friday night but never hit Penn Can. As a matter of fact it rained less than 100 feet from the speedway and went around us. That allowed for a full night of racing on an awesome racing surface and what a night of racing it provided.

Second generation driver Joey Colsten raced into the lead at the drop of the green with Tom McGurrin close behind early. Modified rookie Ryan Olsommer has turned a lot of heads early in the season and Friday was no exception. Olsommer quickly moved into second and then set his sights on Colsten as the two pulled away from the pack.

The man on the move was eighth starting Kevin Hartnett. The defending Track Champion needed just seven laps to crack the top three but had a lot of real estate to make up to catch the leaders. As the race continued to be caution free, the leaders started to get into lapped traffic, setting up a thrilling finish.

Hartnett caught the leader in lapped traffic and the top three were tight together over the closing laps. As Colsten took the white flag he had to negotiate lapped traffic. One mistake would cost him the race. The three drivers went three wide into turn one with Colsten and Olsommer going around the lapped car and Hartnett trying to make it underneath. The door closed on Hartnett but Olsommer chased Colsten down the backstretch and through the final two turns but Colsten was up to the challenge and held him off for the win.

Colsten became the third different winner in three races. Olsommer continued to impress with another strong second place finish. Hartnett settled for third ahead of Joey Grammes who had just caught the leaders on the final lap. Alan Rudalavage rounded out the top five and secure the point lead in the process. Sixth through tenth went to Nick Rochinski, McGurrin, Mike Dougherty, Dan Pompey,  and Mike Colsten.

Adam MacGeorge raced out front at the start of the Crate Sportsman feature from his outside pole starting position. Meanwhile opening night winner Marty Bunker was making quick work of the pack from his sixth starting spot to move into the runnerup spot ahead of rookie Moose Gulley at the halfway point.

Bunker immediately went to work on MacGeorge for the lead and took the top spot just two laps later. Once in front he cruised to his second feature win over MacGeorge, Gulley, Paul Rooney and Dusty Barton.

Shane Wolf, Jr. made it look easy as he went unchallenged to claim his third Street Stock feature win of the season. Ricky Davis, Sr was second ahead of Ryan Codington, Josh Towner and Chuck Murray. Jim O’Hara went wire to wire in the caution free Crate Late Model feature over Bud Phillips and Jamie Bedford.

In the Factory Stock feature Jeremy Williams took the lead from his teammate Jason Rinker with five laps to go to score another win. Rinker came home second ahead of Kris Shimer, Brad Marvin and Dustin Burdick.

The Four Cylinder Stock feature saw Josh Wilder jump into the early lead. He was able to hold the top spot until Mike Robinson took over on lap four and never looked back. Robinson claimed the win over Frank Kennedy, Nick Kennedy, Wilder and Charlie Towner.
