ALAN RUDALAVAGE BECOMES FIFTH DIFFERENT WINNER IN FIVE RACES AT PENN CAN SPEEDWAY; BARTON, CODINGTON, PHILLIPS, WILLIAMS AND KENNEDY ALSO RACE TO WINS

SUSQUEHANNA, PA…Alan Rudalavage became the fifth different Modified winner in as many races on Friday night at Penn Can Speedway. Dusty Barton, Ryan Codington, Bud Philips, Jeremy Willams and Frank Kennedy were also victorious in their respective features.

Tom McGurrin and Mike Dougherty brought the Modified field to the initial green flag with Dougherty jumping out to the early lead. The race was slowed by only two cautions, with those coming on laps three and four for spins. The final 26 laps went caution free. Dougherty held the top spot but Rudalavage was on the move from his sixth starting spot.

Rudalavage powered past McGurrin into the runnerup spot on lap five and needed just two laps to dispose of Dougherty to blast into the lead. Rudalavage, who teamed up with Brad Grammes during the offseason, was piloting a rocket ship as he left the field far behind him over the final 20 laps. He picked up the win by more than a straightaway over Dougherty. Joey Colsten had another strong run coming home third over Dan Pompey and Kevin Hartnett.

Fourteen year old rookie Leo McGurrin charged into the lead at the drop of the green in the Sportsman feature. The second generation driver looked strong as he held off the constant challenges from Dusty Barton. Barton kept up the heavy pressure and was finally able to move past McGurrin right before the halfway point.

While those two drivers led the way there was a great four car race going on for third between Adam MacGeorge, Marty Bunker, Paul Rooney and Mike Schane. Those four drivers swapped positions repeatedly for many laps. The only caution flag of the race came with just three laps to go when Schane slowed between turns three and four.

When racing resumed Barton cruised to his first win of the season. McGurrin came home with an impressive second place finish. MacGeorge, Bunker and Rooney rounded out the top five finishers.

Bud Phillips raced to his fourth Crate Late Model feature win of the season. Jamie Bedford had a strong run, coming home second over Jim O’Hara and Al Whitaker.

Ryan Codington scored his first Penn Can Street Stock feature win last week and liked it so much he decided to do it again on Friday. After battling with Ricky Davis, Sr. for several laps, Codington moved out front and then never looked back in the caution free feature event.  Davis came home second ahead of Ray Lindquist, Shane Wolf, Jr. and Chuck Murray.

The Factory Stock feature was another heartbreaker for Kris Shimer. He had the 72 hooked up and flying and appeared to be on his way to his first career feature win. Defending Track Champ Jeremy Williams was hot on his heels but Shimer maintained his lead running the top of the speedway.

Shimer’s great run came to a halt with just two laps to go as he slowed and came to a stop in the middle of turns one and two. That opened the door for Williams to cruise to his fifth win of the season. Jason Travis was second ahead of Ted Mills, Jr., Jason Rinker and Brad Marvin.

Frank Kennedy charged out to the front early in the Four Cylinder feature and romped to another feature win. Sheldon Whitman had his best finish of the season coming home second ahead of Rich Wagner, Jr., Phil Burns and Chris Taylor.
