NOVEMBER 7TH KING OF THE CAN TO CLOSE OUT THE 2015 RACING SEASON AT PENN CAN SPEEDWAY

SUSQUEHANNA, PA...Day two of the King of the Can Weekend at Penn Can Speedway will take place on Saturday, November 7th at 2:00 p.m. The show for the Race of Champions Sportsman, Race of Champions Street Stocks, IMCA Style Modifieds, Slingshots by Tobias, Factory Stocks and Four Cylinders will bring down the curtain on the racing season in the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania and Southern Tier of New York. It’s the last chance for fans in the area to get in a race before the long winter sets in.

The RoC Open Sportsman will run a 30 lap feature paying $1,000 to win and will decide the season long championship. A Crate bonus will be paid to the top three 602 Crate Legal Sportsman cars across the line. The bonus will be $100, $75 and $50 respectively to the top three Crates across the line. 602 Crates run weekly at Penn Can and have proven to be on an even playing field with the Open Sportsman as Ryan Olsommer can attest. Olsommer bested the RoC Sportsman field in his Crate in the past and will look to do so again at the season finale.

The IMCA Style Modifieds were originally slated to run 20 laps for $500 to win. That has changed thanks to Matt Roberts of M.R. Grafix, who will add an additional $100 to the winners share as well as $100 to second place. He will also provide $50 gift certificates to the third and fourth place finishers. But that’s not all. Drivers Mike and Tyler Stoddard of MT Head Racing are adding $50 to the second and third place finishers in the race.  That means that the winner will now take home $600 with second paying $450 and $350 going to the third place finisher. It will be a great way to close out the season for these drivers.

The Race of Champions Street Stocks will go to battle in a $500 to win, 25 lap feature to determine the overall champion. Penn Can Track Champion Shane Wolf, Jr. is leading the way in the RoC standings as well and will look to lock up the title on his home track.

The Four Cylinders will run a 20 lap feature, paying $400 to win. A $200 bonus was offered if a driver could sweep both nights of the King of the Can Weekend. Andy Brigham was the winner of night one and should he win again on the 7th, he would pocket the $400 winners share along with the $200 bonus, making his sweep worth $1,000. Of course there will be a strong field of contenders trying to pocket the $400 winners share themselves. The race is for Front Wheel Drive Four Cylinders only with Penn Can rules applying.

The Factory Stocks will also run a 20 lap feature, paying $400 to win. This is by far their biggest purse of the year. Penn Can and Skyline rules will apply for this event.

The Slingshots by Tobias will also be in competition on November 7th.  They will race for the National Tour purse and a strong field of cars is expected in what will be their final event of the year.

The CRSA Sprint Cars were originally on the schedule but it has not yet been confirmed as to whether or not they will be in competition. A drivers meeting will be held this Friday (October 30th) at Five Mile Point where they will be racing, to determine if there will be enough drivers available to compete as there are a couple of conflicts in their schedule. An announcement will be made on Saturday as to their inclusion in the show. At that time the complete information sheet with the order of events will be posted on the Penn Can Facebook page along with other media outlets.

We all know how miserable the past couple of winters have been so don’t miss out on your final chance to fulfill your racing fix in the area. The conclusion of the King of the Can Weekend will take place on Saturday, November 7th at 2:00 p.m. Pit gates will open at 11:00 a.m., grandstand gates at noon and hot laps will begin at 1:00 p.m. Penn Can Speedway is located on Route 171 in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania.

KEVIN JORDAN LEADS RACE OF CHAMPIONS SPORTSMAN TO PENN CAN FINALE THIS SATURDAY

The Race of Champions Sportsman will close out their season this Saturday at Penn Can Speedway for the King of the Can. Kevin Jordan will lead the open Sportsman to the track as he sits atop the RoC standings. Race time on Saturday afternoon is 2:00 p.m.

Jordan will only need to take the green flag in the feature to wrap up the 2015 Race of Champions title. Lurking in the shadows is 2015 Penn Can point runnerup Ryan Olsommer with his 602 Crate Sportsman. Olsommer has beaten the Open Sportsman in the past at Penn Can and will look to do so again on Saturday. There will be Crate bonuses to the top three finishers across the line. The top three 602 Crate Sportsman will take home an extra $100, $75 and $50 respectively.

Currently sitting third in the point standings is Brad Szulewski, who is coming off a big win last Saturday at Five Mile Point. Szulewski is just one point behind Olsommer and is only three points ahead of Kenny Hammond, who currently sits in fourth in the standings. Charlie Hendrickson rounds out the top five, just 16 points behind Hammond. A lot can change on Saturday between those drivers.

Randy Green, Mike Austin, Cory Pike, Nick Nye and Ryan Higgs currently sit in positions six through ten. Brian White sits just a few points out of tenth and could move up a few positions with a strong finish. White is a past RoC winner at Penn Can.

The RoC Sportsman will be joined by the RoC Street Stocks, IMCA Style Modifieds, Factory Stocks, Four Cylinders and Slingshots by Tobias as Penn Can closes out the King of the Can Weekend and the 2015 racing season.

Pit gates open on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with the grandstand opening at noon. Hot laps will get underway at 1:00 p.m. with the first heat taking the green flag at 2:00 p.m. Penn Can Speedway is located on Route 171 in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania.

RACE OF CHAMPIONS STREET STOCK POINT LEADER SHANE WOLF, JR LOOKS TO SECURE TITLE ON HIS HOME TURF SATURDAY AT PENN CAN SPEEDWAY

Shane Wolf, Jr. has had a tremendous season in 2015 and can put the icing on the cake this Saturday at Penn Can Speedway in the Race of Champions Street Stock finale. The 2015 Penn Can Track Champion will look to add the Race of Champions title to his resume on Saturday in the King of the Can. Racing begins at 2:00 p.m.

Wolf is coming of an RoC win last Saturday at Five Mile Point that vaulted him into the point lead on the series. It was his 16th feature win of the 2015 racing season and his third in a row on the RoC Series. He can lock up the Race of Champions title this Saturday at this home track.

Of course there are a couple of drivers that would like to prevent that from happening. Gene Sharpsteen had led the points for a good portion of the series before Wolf went on his hot streak. Sharpsteen is just 27 points behind Wolf in the standings. Sitting in third and just two points behind Sharpsteen is past RoC Street Stock Champion Bob Buono. After a brief stint in a Crate Sportsman in 2014, Buono is back in the Street Stock and has a shot at knocking down his second RoC Championship.

The RoC Street Stocks will be joined by the RoC Sportsman, IMCA Style Modifieds, Factory Stocks, Four Cylinders and Slingshots by Tobias in the curtain closer for 2015 at Penn Can Speedway. Pit gates will open at 11:00 a.m. with the grandstand gates swinging open at noon. Hot laps will begin at 1:00 p.m. and the first heat will take the green flag at 2:00 p.m. Penn Can Speedway is located on Route 171 in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania.
