PENN CAN REGULARS POISED TO OUTSHINE THE INVADERS IN THE OCTOBER 16TH KING OF THE CAN

 

SUSQUEHANNA, PA…When the checkered flag flew in the September 20th Clash at the Can at Penn Can Speedway, track regulars sent a loud and clear message that they were not going to play second fiddle to the invaders at the upcoming King of the Can. The Race of Champions Modifieds will come to town on Friday, October 16th and Track Champion Kevin Hartnett will lead the local charge in the $5,000 to win event.

   Hartnett led a dominating performance with three of the top four finishers being Penn Can regulars. Only RoC point leader Stewart Friesen was able to crack the top four but had to settle for third behind Hartnett and Nick Rochinski. Dan Pompey, the winningest driver at Penn Can in 2015, was fourth with young racing sensation Tyler Dippel rounding out the top five.

   Will the home track dominance repeat itself in next Friday’s King of the Can? We will find out on the 16th. Of course there will be a whole host of invaders that will be out to knock the regulars off the throne.

   Danny Johnson is always fast when he comes to Penn Can and certainly having car owner Chris Gennarelli’s home track knowledge will only enhance his chances. Gennarelli’s son Alec was the Crate Sportsman Track Champ in 2015 at Penn Can. Mike Mahaney has been moving up the RoC point standings and is coming off a solid sixth place finish in the Clash at the Can. A strong finish in the King of the Can could vault him into third in the RoC standings going into the finale at Five Mile Point.

   The King of the Can Weekend kicks off on Friday, October 16th featuring the Race of Champions Modifieds, the GRIT Series for 602 Crate Sportsman and the Front Wheel Drive Four Cylinders. The GRIT Sportsman will race for a $1,000 top prize while the Four Cylinders will race for $400 to win. The Four Cylinders will also be in competition on Saturday night for another $400 to win feature. Should a Four Cylinder driver sweep the weekend he would take home a $200 bonus, giving him a $1,000 payday for the weekend. Race time Friday is 7:00 p.m.

   The King of the Can Weekend concludes on Saturday night, October 17th featuring the CRSA Sprint Cars, Race of Champions Sportsman, RoC Street Stocks, IMCA Style Modifieds, Factory Stocks, Slingshots by Tobias and the previously mentioned Front Wheel Drive Four Cylinders. Race time on Saturday is 6:00 p.m.
