KEVIN HARTNETT WINS MODIFIED THRILLER AT PENN CAN SPEEDWAY.

SUSQUEHANNA, PA… Kevin Hartnett had the fans on their feet Friday night at the Penn Can Speedway. Hartnett picked up his first win of 2015 after a turn four pass around Alan Rudalavage on the final lap. Rudalavage looked strong as he led 19 laps before being edged out at the finish. Dusty Barton picked up a win in the Crate Sportsman feature doing so in dominant fashion. Steve Deinhardt picked up his first win of the year at the speedway besting the field in the Street Stock 20 lap main event. Jeremy Williams collected his second win of the season in the Factory Stock feature with Don Doster picking up his first win of the year in the 4 Cylinder 15 lap main event.

Frank Porreca and Joey Colsten brought the 22 car string Modified field to the green flag where it was Porreca grabbing the initial advantage. Scranton Pa’s Bob Trapper wasted no time taking the lead as he did so on lap two. The high flying Trapper quickly jumped out to a commanding lead. Alan Rudalavage was another fast mover as he was up to second from fifth just 5 laps into the feature.

The first caution flag flew on lap 8 for a slowing Sam Allen. At this point, Trapper was scored the leader over Rudalavage, Nick Rochinski, Kevin Hartnett, with Joey Colsten rounding out the top 5.  In the immediate laps to follow, Hartnett, who started ninth, began to apply some pressure to the top runners.

Meanwhile, Rudalavage worked the bottom of the speedway to get around Trapper for the lead on lap 10. As the race hit the halfway point, Rudalavage maintained the advantage over Hartnett, Trapper, Rochinski, and Joey Colsten who completed the top 5.

Hartnett began to challenge Rudalavage in the later stages of the event until a lap 20 caution that would slow down the action. On the ensuing restart, Rudalavage was able to get the jump that would keep him ahead of Hartnett. Just as the racing got back under way, it was quickly brought to another caution on lap 23 this time for Alex Stanton. At this point, the top two remained unchanged, but Rochinski had moved into third after working by Trapper on the previous circuit.

In the closing five laps, Rudalavage continued to run the middle of the speedway and down as he held onto the lead. Hartnett was able to get his car to run one groove lower however, as he continued to give Rudalavage everything he had. As the field picked up the white flag, Rudalavage and Hartnett were side by side with Rochinski a few car lengths back in third. Coming off of turn four on the final circuit, Rudalavage slid up just enough to allow Hartnett to sneak underneath to take over the lead en route to a thrilling victory. Rudalavage finished a strong second with Rochinski, Trapper, and Joey Colsten completing the top 5.

Dusty Barton looked impressive as he picked up his first win of 2015 leading wire to wire. Barton started in third and quickly took over the lead on the first circuit and did not look back as he dominated the 20 lap affair. Alec Gennarelli had another strong outing as he finished second after starting back in 8th. Ryan Olsommer rejoiced after some early race struggles to finish in third with Tyler Singleton and Pat Jordan rounding out the top 5.

Steve Deinhardt picked up where he left off in 2014 with a strong run in the Street Stock 20 lapper as he claimed his first Penn Can win of the year. Deinhardt and Ryan Stone put on a great battle in the first half of the race until Deinhardt was able to get by for good on lap 10 en route to the victory.

Jeremy Williams notched win number two of the 2015 season in the Factory Stock 15 lap feature as he was able to hold off all of the challenges that he faced. Don Doster has looked strong this season and Friday night things went his way as he picked up his first 4 Cylinder win of the year.

Penn Can Points: Fans were treated to a great night of racing that took just under 3 hours to complete. A nice tribute was held before the racing began for former Penn Can racer Bill House who recently passed away. A number of teams took 5 laps prior to the heats in honor of House's number before releasing balloons. The Modified feature proved to be one for the ages as the close finish had fans on their feet. A solid field of cars filled the pits for the third successful race of 2015. This Friday will feature a full night of racing plus the ELS Sprints.
